Chapter 21

De’Shawn

I came to the bar to get my mind right and shoot a little pool when I looked up to see Shy sitting at the bar. I placed my pool stick down and made my way over to her.

“I’m starting to think you following a brother. What you doing in a place like this?”

“I came to drink my problems away.”

“You don’t even look like that type,” I eyed her.

“I’m not. My sister is the drinker. This will be my first drink. Shoot I didn’t even know what to order.”

“Aye my man, cancel that drink order and bring her a sprite with a cherry or something.”

“I like your nerve,” she laughed. “I didn’t need it anyway.”

“Yea that’s not a good look on you.”

“So why are you here?” she asked taking a sip of her sprite.

“I come here when I need to clear my head and shot some pool.”

“I haven’t played pool in years. Want to play a game?”

“You ain’t said nothing.”

We got our sodas and headed over to the same pool table I had just left. I could tell she knew what she was doing because she racked the balls up real neat and she even knew how to hold her stick with fumbling with it. Shy was really a around the way girl. I could never get Michelle to do anything like this.

Shy was putting a whooping on me.

“I thought you said you hadn’t played in years? You got to be cheating or something.” I told her as my phone rung.

“Talk to me sis,” I said into the phone. I watched the table as Shy was getting ready to shoot the 8 ball to win the game.

“I’ll stop by when I leave here. This girl done beat me on the table,” I said before hanging up in Reeci face.

“I was a little rusty but I think I did alright,” Shy smiled.

“I want another round if you have time,” I told her.

“Run it then.”

Sadly, Shy beat me again. I had such a great time with her I didn’t want her to leave.

“Thank you De’Shawn for showing me a good time. Oh, and stopping me from drinking.”

“No problem.”

We just stood in silence like neither of us wanted to leave. I knew she needed to get home to her kids so I broke the silence.

“Well I guess I’ll have to run into you somewhere else.”

“Yea I guess so.” She unlocked her car and climbed in, rolling her window down.

“You mind giving me your number?”

“I don’t know De’Shawn I’m just getting out of something as you know. I just don’t want to hop back in something until I know for sure that door is closed.”

“I understand. You have my card so if you want get out and shoot some more pool or something just hit me up.”

“Thank you and you drive safe,” she said before backing up and leaving.

“Reeci what’s going on?” I sat on her sofa.

“You see all this stuff,” she waved her hand showing me the bags of stuff lined up on the wall.
